Baker Beach
San Francisco, c.1975
Baker Beach is a small beach just west of the Golden Gate Bridge. On this day the fog was rolling in with periodic glimpses of the sun that highlighted a man playing with his dogs in the surf.
Grabbed my camera, a Hasselblad, and quickly took a shot guessing at the exposure. Later, after taking a meter reading, I realized I had greatly over-exposed. On the contact sheet that frame was solid white.
Even printing on Agfa Brovira #6 wouldn't work. I sent the film to Nancy Scans for processing. Received a phone call from Nancy. She asked how I wanted it processed. I indicated that I would be developing in Photoshop so just make sure all tonal values were present. The results are seen below.
If you look closely you can see a small dark speck suspended over the ocean. I thought it was a dust spot on the first print but closer inspection revealed it was a stick thrown for the dogs.
